President-Elect

 Erika Filipiak

Hello everyone!

My name is Erika Filipiak! I currently attend school at Charleston Southern University and I'm a first year nursing student. I am eager to finish school to become either a pediatric or cardiac nurse. I have been called to be a nurse to share my compassion with patients and give them the best care. I am a member of Charleston Southern's Student Nurses Association and I am enthusiastic to be running for President-Elect in hopes to be actively engaged with all nursing students in South Carolina.

Breakthrough to Nursing Director

 Marshall Gunnels

Marshall Gunnels is in the nursing program at the University of South Carolina Aiken. When he isn’t working or studying for his next exam, Marshall enjoys volunteering with the youth program at his church. He is extremely active in his school’s SNA and hopes to get involved with SNA on the state level. Marshall is not your traditional student, as he was a biology major until he ultimately found his calling in nursing during his junior year. Because he was not always a nursing major, he believes that he will be able to relate to and have great insight for current nursing students and students who are considering switching to nursing. As the Breakthrough To Nursing chair, Marshall plans to focus on non-traditional students and minorities and believes that recruitment and retention are incredibly important in the profession. His biggest desire as chair is to convey how powerful and rewarding the nursing profession can be.

Tara Rubinstein

Hey everyone, my name is Tara Rubinstein and I’m running for the Breakthrough to Nursing director office.  I was born in Ohio, but have lived in Greenville for 25 years. Nursing is my second career and my third degree at Greenville Tech.  In 2007 I graduated from the Massage Therapy program, and in 2011 I graduated from the Surgical Technology program.  While in school I still work as a Surgical Tech at a small outpatient center in Greenville.

In May I will graduate from Greenville Tech for the final time with an Associate Degree in Nursing! Upon completion of the ADN degree I would like to work in pediatrics.  I have a passion for children and want to carry that passion into my nursing career.  My long term goal is to complete a BSN program and eventually a Masters level program to obtain my NP in Family medicine.

Currently I hold the position of President for my local SNA chapter and have enjoyed it so much that I want to be involved on a State level as well.  Being in this position has helped me learn leadership skills as well as improve my public relation skills.  By attending monthly COSR meetings I have seen first hand how the State office runs.  I know that this will be very helpful if elected BTN director.  I have really enjoyed meeting many of you and hearing all about what projects your schools have going on.  I have some great ideas for promoting nursing and healthcare, and plan to put these projects into action.  I look forward to sharing these ideas with you all at Convention in a day.  Thank you for your time.

 LeShauntia 'Tia' Williams

Hello fellow SNA-SC members,

I am a student at Midlands Technical College pursuing an Associate’s Degree in nursing.  I will be graduating in August of 2016.  My future goals include eventually graduating with both a BSN and MSN.  I currently serve as the NEC/Historian for the Midlands Technical College SNA. While my time as a board member has been short, I have come to find it to be an invaluable experience.  My participation with the SNA has furthered my understanding of our responsibility as student nurses beyond academics. It has helped me to understand our responsibility to have positive impacts in our communities and the nursing profession.  This is why I am very excited at the prospect of serving as your Social Media Director.  Social media plays a huge role in the way that we communicate in today’s world.  It would be my goal to create a social media experience that is both informative and entertaining, while allowing for meaningful interaction among the student nursing world.  I thank you in advance for considering me for this opportunity.
